Allied Health & Medical Programs
Brown Mackie College’s health professions programs prepare students for entry-level positions in a variety of settings, including doctor’s offices, clinics, hospitals, health insurance companies, and more. Brown Mackie places an emphasis on hands-on experience in our medical laboratories, which are on-site and are outfitted with the latest technology and equipment.

The curriculum of each program provides the right mix of technical expertise and knowledge and professional skills.

Administration in Gerontology
The Gerontology program introduces the student to the biological, social, and psychological processes of the aging process and how it impacts the health care industry. By simultaneously preparing the student with the technical knowledge and skills necessary to enter the administrative structure of the contemporary world of health care as it relates to an aging population, graduates of this program will be prepared to seek any of a variety of entry-level positions in a health care or social service setting that specializes in serving seniors.

Gerontology (Associate of Applied Science)
This program introduces students to the many aspects (biological, psychological, and social) of aging and its impact on the healthcare industry. Students gain technical knowledge and administrative skills.

Health Care Administration (Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Science)
This program focuses on the managerial and organizational support functions within the healthcare industry. Students learn how various healthcare systems work, and receive hands-on training in administration.

Medical Assistant (Diploma and Certificate)
The program provides students with knowledge and training in clinical and administrative medical capacities. Students are prepared for entry-level work under supervision of physicians or medical office managers. Students are also introduced to basic pharmacology, business principles, and computer operations.

Medical Assisting (Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Science)
The program prepares students to work under the direction of physicians. Students have a firm understanding of administrative and clinical procedures, such as basic pharmacological and clinical procedures, medical history and records documentation and filing, and diagnostic procedures.

Medical Coding and Billing for Healthcare (Diploma)
This program provides students with the skills necessary to obtain entry-level employment in the medical business office setting. The program prepares students to analyze information from patient records and combine that information with knowledge of insurance reimbursement and coding guidelines to optimize physician payments.

Medical Office Management (Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Science, Diploma)
Students gain an understanding of medical billing and coding procedures, as well as other clerical and administrative tasks needed to run a medical office.

Medical Transcription
The diploma program in Medical Transcription prepares students for employment as an entry-level medical transcriptionist, or in related employment needing medical transcription skills, in medical clinics, medical offices, and hospitals. Students will use computers, dictation, and transcription equipment to apply the principles of medical terminology to the production of medical-related documents that are accurate and professional.

Occupational Therapy Assistant (Associate of Applied Science)
Students are trained in administrating therapy to individuals who have lost functional abilities due to injury or illness. Students are prepared for national board exams and for entry-level employment in assisting occupational therapists.

Pharmacy Technology (Associate of Applied Science)
Graduates work under the direction of pharmacists. Students learn pharmacy procedure, anatomy, medical terminology, and administrative practices.

Physical Therapy Assistant (Associate of Applied Science)
Students are prepared to assist physical therapists in administering therapy treatments to individuals who have lost functional abilities due to illness, injury or disease.

Practical Nursing(Diploma, Certificate)
The program is a balance of classroom instruction and clinical experience. Students are instructed in areas of basic medicine and prepared for the LPN State Board licensure.

Surgical Technology (Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Science)
Students are trained in general and specialty surgical procedures and the principles of basic medical techniques. Graduates are prepared to assist surgeons.

Veterinary Technician
Students in the Veterinary Technician program learn how to work with and under the direction of veterinarians in an office or other medical setting. Students gain valuable skills in animal patient care, anesthesia, surgical assistance, laboratory procedures, and radiography. Additional general education courses assist professional growth as students move from the classroom into the workplace. Upon graduation, students are prepared for entry-level positions in veterinary offices and animal hospitals and shelters.

Veterinary Technology (Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Science)
Students in the Veterinary Technician associate of applied science degree program learn how to work with and under the direction of veterinarians in an office or other medical setting. Students gain valuable skills in animal patient care, anesthesia, surgical assistance, laboratory procedures and radiography.
